PHYS 1820

Exotic Stars, Galaxies and Cosmology: This course extends the material from General Astronomy 1, increasing the student’s physical understanding of topics like black holes, galaxies, and the expanding universe. Topics range from the Big Bang to the formation of neutron stars. A significant amount of simple arithmetic and trigonometry is used to provide the insights into physical background and to illuminate current research problems. Labs and observing sessions are used to teach scientific method. Not to be held with the former 016.180. Prerequisites: Pre-calculus Mathematics 40S or equivalent, or consent of department.
