Juris Svenne's Teaching:
I am now retired, since June 30, 2004.
As an academic, I usually had the normal teaching load for my deparment,
except during the time I was associate dean.
I had generally a good reputation as a teacher and had carried out some innovations in
teaching.
Last courses taught
- 16.105,
Physics I,
2000-4. Though I taught 16.120 many years ago,
the first half of which is the precursor to 105, it was almost like teaching a new course.
- 33.323,
Acoustics of Music.
This was taught for the first time since 1989,
in spring term 1997/98. The course now meets, for students in the School of Music,
the University I requirement of a 3-credit-hour course with a substantial
mathematics content. For this reason the course was substantially
revised from the way it was the last time I taught it. It is now taught every year,
on load. (1997/98, 98/99, 99/2000, 2000/01 (second term), 2001/02 (first term), 2002/3 and 2003/4 (second term).)
I also participated in the work of the University Teaching Services (U.T.S.),
in particular as facilitator of a workshop on Course Construction and Design, and
in the annual fall TA workshops, had offerred two sessions on teaching
in a laboratory setting.
