Welcome to PHYS 4520 - Introduction to Solid State Physics
Solid state physics is the largest branch of Condensed Matter Physics (study of liquids and solids, and things in between...), which in turn is the largest field in physics. The interactions between atoms when they are arranged close to each other in solids lead to many fascinating phenomena. It is the combination of exciting fundamental discoveries and useful practical applications that makes solid state physics a dynamic and rewarding field in which to study and work.
In this course, we will introduce the basic concepts on which the field of solid state physics is based. For more information on the course, such as the text book, syllabus and grading scheme, click on the menus on the left sidebar.
