Keep your java, flash, and adobe software up to date at ALL times. There has been a big surge of FAKE antivirus and disk checking software getting installed on people's computers simply because they clicked on a news item or whatever, thinking it was safe to do so. There seem to be constant security issues with many plugins, so it's important to keep them (and windows too) up to date :
